Okay, so this is my entry for the Stylenoir Monarchy Contest
. Category: traditional art.
The theme is - obviously - "monarchy", so I decided to go with a man (or king, rather) with an ermine on his shoulder. You see, once upon a time kings used to wear capes made out of the white winter coat of the ermines, so I thought it'd be cool to interpret that in a more modern and, well, animal friendly way.
You were also supposed to take inspiration from Stylenoir's specific art style, and in one way or another make a piece influenced by that. Therefor I went for a quite sharp shading with a high pressure on the pencils and big contrasts between the darker and lighter areas. I basically only used two pencils (2B and 5B) for the man and two for the ermine (F and 3B). Then I just smoothed the different areas out just a tiny bit with a different pencil, to blend the shades nicely.
Lots of love goes to *Ahrum-Stock
for letting me use their images as reference pieces.
